| The
National Nutrition Certification Program is a peer-review program of the
Meals on Wheels Association of America. The mission of the certification
program is to ensure quality service and organizational accountability
by setting national nutrition program standards. Certification by the
Certification Review Board signifies that a meal program is performing
its mission of providing nutrition services to the elderly and at-risk
populations in a manner consistent with national program standards. The
independent review team, made up of experts in their related fields, certifies
that the nutrition program meets national standards of excellence.
Meals-on-Wheels received notification in March 2004 of its national certification
from the Meals on Wheels Association of America, which acknowledged that
Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties continually demonstrates
the highest standards of services to its communities.
“It is the Meals on Wheels ‘Good Housekeeping’ seal
of approval,” explained Jane Metzger, MOWAA Certification Board
member. “Programs that receive this award have met national program
standards which places them a notch above the rest.”
With this certification, Meals-on-Wheels joins a prestigious group of
organizations across the country dedicated to providing quality senior
nutrition services. In fact, Meals-on-Wheels is only one of two organizations
certified in North Texas, joining Meals on Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County.
Other certified programs in Texas include Meals for the Elderly of San
Angelo, Meals on Wheels Plus of Abilene, and Meals on Wheels and More
of Austin.
